A Guide to Buying CBD in 2020

Maybe you’re looking to try CBD for the first time, maybe you’re buying a gift for the CBD fan in your life, maybe you just want to chillax. Either way, CBD is new, exciting and contrary to popular belief — does not stand for “Cool Bud, Dude”. Are you burning with questions about bud? Well no problem dude, we’ve got some cool answers for you.

Why do you want CBD and in what form?

CBD comes in so many different versions it may as well be considered Blade Runner. But unlike Blade Runner, there is no correct choice (or “Final Cut”). You need to assess why you are purchasing CBD in the first place and which type will work best for you.

Topicals/ointments

If you’re looking for CBD to affect a specific area on your body — this is your best bet. It might be time to mix up your skincare routine.

Teas

Looking to wind down after a long day and take it slow? Teas offer a familiar way to consume CBD. Best enjoyed with cookies and a binge session of Downton Abbey.

Oils

The most versatile of CBD formats. This is best if you’re looking to add CBD to a recipe or drop it into your morning coffee or even just place it under your tongue.

Vape oil / vape cartridges / disposable vapes

This is best if you want CBD on the go. You can throw a vape in your pocket and take a puff virtually anywhere — plus, the terpenes truly shine with vapes making the flavour amazing.

Edibles

Edibles are a simple, yet slower way of ingesting CBD, but it comes in a large variety from chocolates, gummies to plain softgels.

Once you’ve decided which CBD vessel works best for you — you should consider what type of strain you’re looking for. In our shop, you will find several different categories of strains for whatever you’re feeling.

Engage

Are you looking to be the life of the party on your Friday night Jackbox Zoom get together? These strains are for the socialite in you.

Spark

The best and most creative ideas come when you least expect them, these strains might help you get there.

Boost

Need a pick-me-up? Looking to go run a 5k and then hit the gym? These strains will get you through the day.

Mellow

If you’re looking to unwind after a stressful day or just zone out on the couch, these strains are right for you.

Rest

Like mellow, but “mellow-er”. If you’re looking for a deep chill, then these strains are just the ticket.

Connect

If you want to make alone time with that special someone just that much more special, these strains are the perfect pairing for date night.

How much THC does the product contain?

Believe it or not, CBD products are not all about CBD. Depending on what you’re looking for, the THC content will affect your experience with CBD products.

THC and CBD are best buds, they work best when put together. They interact with each other in something called the “Entourage Effect” which we will explain in more detail.

The entourage effect

No, not this isn’t a side effect of how cool you become after watching the original HBO series — it’s a theory that describes how cannabinoids affect each other. In the case of THC and CBD, it’s very interesting: CBD counteracts the psychoactive effects of THC and THC helps CBD bind to your cannabinoid receptors in your brain.

What does this mean for you? Ask yourself what kind of experience you’re looking for. You can cultivate your own experience by using CBD extracts paired with THC extracts. If you’re looking for a pure CBD experience, use only CBD — but if you’d like to control your high, you can use a THC extract to help them work together to create the type of high you’re looking for.

Learn the lingo

Reading the nutritional information has become a ritual when shopping for groceries — but reading the label on your cannabis? Weird, right? What else could be in it other than… cannabis? Well it’s not so much about what ingredients are in it, then what’s in it.

When looking for CBD products, look out for the words “CO2 Extraction” on the packaging because it often means a higher quality product. Wait, what the heck is “CO2 Extraction” and which Terminator movie is that from? Okay, we know exactly what it is and it actually isn’t as daunting as it sounds. It means that the CBD was extracted from the plant using high-pressure carbon dioxide gas, not chemical solvents — which is good! CO2 is a common food additive and is safe to consume — it’s what makes soda fizzy!
